Jeff Nevin,

Orchestral conducting

Jeff Nevin studied conducting at the Pierre Monteux School with Charles Bruck and was conductor of the Southwestern College Symphony Orchestra from 2013-2021. While his professional work has leaned more towards performing as a mariachi musician, soloist and band leader, his experience in these areas combined with his training and expertise as a symphonic conductor gives him a unique perspective on the interpretation of Mexican symphonic music, including the works of Revueltas, Chavez, Moncayo, Galindo, Marquez and others.

Related to his aesthetic of blending mariachi with classical music, he is equally as likely to conduct an orchestra accompanying Mexican opera singers (with or without mariachi), conduct Mexican symphonic masterworks, or solo on trumpet from the podium while conducting.

With more than 20 years of experience presenting concerts that combine traditional Mexican music with with classical music in every way imaginable, Dr. Nevin has a vast repertoire suitable for symphonic classics and pops programs alike — with or without vocal soloists, with or without mariachi.

He has conducted the Colorado Symphony, San Diego Symphony, La Jolla Symphony, San Bernardino Symphony, Orquesta de Baja California, Aguascalientes Symphony Orchestra, Grand Junction Symphony, Desert Symphony, Key West Symphony and Zacatecas Symphony, and conducted for well-known Mexican opera singers including Fernando de la Mora, Jorge Lopez-Yañez, José Luis Duval, Alfredo Portilla, José Medina and Mónica Ábrego.
